Before and After: A tropical terrace

It is clear that living in a rental house has its limitations when it comes to doing work and remodeling. One has to adhere to the rules agreed with the landlord and look for ways to personalize and / or color the rental house to leave it as comfortable as possible without having to break them. This is what Ananda Qianyu and her partner did that did not want to give up having a space that reflected their personality and carried out a radical transformation of their bland terrace using exclusively wooden pallets.

BEFORE

A small terrace with no charm that was rarely used during the year. Ananda had clear the 4 basic rules that he had to follow to carry out the transformation and that included, among others, the limitations agreed upon with his landlord:

  1. No holes could be made and / or nailed to the walls.
  2. No surface could be painted, including floor, walls and ceiling.
  3. Everything had to be easily removable.
  4. Do everything with a reduced budget to show that the solution was available to everyone.

THE AFTER

The inspiration to transform this terrace was taken from one of her favorite places, Kauai, in the Hawaiian Islands. They wanted a space that evoked the beauty and freshness of the ocean and for that they used materials, shapes and colors inspired by the culture of the tropical islands. Turquoise blue of the sea, pink hibiscus and intense yellow in the color palette combined with materials such as wood darkened to the tropical style of the pallets and lamps that simulated fishing baskets. The final touch was achieved with the incorporation of a multitude of tropical plants on the coffee table, colored planters and even on the wall.

Despite the many hours of work that brought the transformation, we believe that the result is really worth it. From a boring space without personality, it has become a cozy tropical corner that invites to spend every afternoon in it. And what do you think?
