Mar de Fulles, the first 100% self-sufficient hotel in Europe

In the heart of the Natural Park of the Sierra de Espadán, we find the Mar de Fulles hotel complex. After 11 years of hard work and effort, this hotel in the Castellón municipality of Alfondeguilla has become the first self-sufficient and socially responsible hotel in Europe. Without going any further, in 2016, the European Parliament awarded him the Citizenergy price, an award that includes the best initiative in the field of renewable energy and the collaborative economy.

Through this project, its owners intend to demonstrate to the world that it is possible to live a 100% sustainable experience in the middle of nature. His initial financial contribution was 6,000 euros, but thanks to microcredits, ethical banks and many people who supported them, today Mar de Fulles is a reality. Today Mar de Fulles is bathing in the peace and tranquility of the leaves and trees of its forests.

Natural products in its construction

The complex is built with lime, wood and thermo clay and, at the beginning, they were planted 40,000 cork oaks to offset CO2 emissions of the construction. "We are CO2 neutral and our commitment is to maintain CO2 negativity," says Juanma Urban. In addition, the network of roads that runs through the environment was carried out at peak and hoe for a year and a half without using mechanical means. Mar de Fulles works exclusively with solar energy, low energy lighting and closed water circuit of a well with a green filter treatment plant. Many of the products you use in your kitchen are grown in the garden itself, without using any chemicals. And, products that do not come from their organic garden are mostly from local or fair trade producers.
